The Art of Just Starting

“Just start”

“don’t wait until it is perfect, just start”

“there will never be a perfect time to start something, just start”

These and many phrases like this have been playing on repeat in my head for months (maybe longer). I am not a business minded person by nature so when the promptings to start Pepper Hill as a full blown business started coming it was safe to say I was overwhelmed. I would sit on my phone doom scrolling, as so many of us do, and see all these amazing creators sharing their art, teaching and making it work. The algorithm must have once again heard my thoughts. While that normally kind of freaks me out this time I was grateful. I started seeing all of these videos of creators explaining that they also didn’t know what they were doing, they just started.

I am not good at social media by any stretch but I have been grateful for a few accounts that have shown me artists, mothers and just regular people just trying and sharing their creativity. I am not sure where this will lead but I am excited about the idea of just trying and just starting.

I had no idea how to get things started, how to build a website, how to advertise, where to teach the classes and when I would find time to do all of these things. I still don’t fully know the answer to all of these things but I finally took the advise of so many, I just started.

I have had the help of my incredible family and friends. I have probably made them crazy asking for advise, suggestions and encouragement.

Talking about how hard it is to invest in yourself. It is hard to have to try new things but sometimes you just have to trust your gut. Surround yourself with people who encourage you to do that. By the screen printing set up!
